Senior Technical Director required as partner in new forestry consulting and verification business
at DGM in Flexible location; head office will be London,UK
I am seeking a partner for a new business venture. The business will be targeting the carbon forestry market and REDD, offering both market leading consultancy and verification and validation services.
The senior Director will be a co-owner of the firm. He/she will have strong experience of forestry and carbon forestry developments and will help shape the business from the start, including:
- Contributing to the development of business strategy and planning
- Shaping the proposition to market
- Specifying and supporting the building of technical capacity within the firm
- Leading on methodological development
- Representing and promoting the company externally to expert industry audiences and customers
- Leading major projects and key client relationships
- Taking responsibility for management systems and quality assurance processes.
Requirements:
- Advanced university degree in forestry
- At least 12 years professional forestry related expertise
- Direct experience of leading carbon forestry projects, as manager/developer and/or validator/verifier
- International experience, including work in developing countries or countries in transition
- Strong understanding of key methodology issues in forestry (CDM, VCS, CAR, CCX)
- Passionate about effective and sustainable forest management and motivated by the desire to make a difference
- Excited about the challenge, independence and reward that comes with creating a new business
- Strong team leader
- An effective and credible communicator
- Well organised, proactive and self-starting
- Strong values and ethics
- Decent understanding of commercials
- Fluent english
- Willingness to travel / spend time abroad.
The candidate is likely:
- To have an international forestry profile, or to be starting to establish one
- To have relationships across the industry, including with senior government policy makers, commercial organisations and NGOs
- To have had a senior role(s) in forestry consulting and/or with one of the DOEs
- To have a strong sense of the market opportunity in carbon forestry
- To be ambitious and thinking about his/her next move
- To have entrepreneurial flair and be comfortable taking considered risks; the candidate may have considered starting a business on their own but has maybe lacked the confidence or opportunity to do so
- To speak at least two languages.
This is the technical lead role for the firm and will represent a unique personal development opportunity for the right candidate. I am passionate about the need to reduce carbon emissions and have considerable interest in and knowledge of carbon-related forestry developments.
